Mission & Goals

The Consumer Council for Northern Ireland was established in 1985 as a non-departmental public body under the General Consumer Council (Northern Ireland) Order 1984. Our purpose is to protect consumers and champion their rights, empowering them now and in the future. Our foundational statutory duty is to safeguard consumer interests in any UK market, including financial services and food accessibility. We have extensive legal powers, covering reserved and devolved legislation, in energy, transport, water and post. We have a unique role in influencing and shaping consumer centric policy, here, in the UK, and in Europe.
