Mission & Goals

The Conference of European Churches (CEC), founded in 1959, is a fellowship of some 114 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican and Old Catholic Churches from all countries of Europe, plus 40 national councils of churches and organisations in partnership. The role of CEC is on the one hand to develop a dialogue among its Member Churches and support co-operation, tolerance and respect between churches in Europe both inside and outside of the European Union. On the other hand CEC supports and strengthens the common witness of European Churches vis-à-vis International Organisations by encouraging its members to speak with a common voice: it links its members and associates with the European Union’s institutions, the Council of Europe and other international institutions and maintains and facilitates an open, regular and transparent dialogue with them. CEC monitors the EU Institutions and informs its members about relevant developments so as to raise awareness about EU-matters with its Members.

EU Legislative Interests

Monitoring and contributing to main policies of EU as the following: competitiveness and European economic governance, security and defence, preparedness strategy, European social fairness, Quality of life, Democracy and values, A global Europe, EU Budget (Multi-Annual Financial Framework), Neighborhood and enlargement policy (especially on Ukraine), the Green Deal and EU Climate Policies, Human Rights inside and outside the EU, Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (AI Continent Action Plan), Regional Policy, education policies.

Communication Activities

Informing the Member Churches through CEC newsletter as well through letters; Conferences with publications, f.ex. on Ukraine in December 2024, and informing the relevant units on Ukraine in the EU institutions about the outcome of the conference. In preparation to contribute to the envisaged consultation on democracy in 2025 by the European Commission.
