Mission & Goals
To provide a voice for Local Government accross the Commonwealth and to develop the capacity of the institutions of Local Governance in the 56 countries of Commonwealth through capacity building, technical support, networking and knowledge sharing.
EU Legislative Interests
CLGF represents the local government community (Councils, Ministries of local government, local government associations and cities) of the 56 countries of the Commonwealth. We target all policy development with an impact on decemntralisaiton and good governance, as well as policies impacting on thematic sectors of handeled or impacting on the lcoal government level. This includes the EU's Development Policy, the NDICI & Global Gateway, the Post-Cotonou EU-ACP agreement, as well as sector policies impacting the Local Government, communities, and citizens (eg: Climate Change, Local Economic Development, Women's Empowerment, Infrastructure investment etc).
Communication Activities
-Organising Webinars on Local Economic Development (LED) and Trade, and Healthy Cities, Women's Political Inclusion and Mentoring, Youth & Cities - Organising consultations with Local Government Councils and Ministries to identify development priorities (on-going). - Working with CLGF's members in LGAs and Ministries to improve their capaicity to dialogue with their national EU Delegation -Project Management: “Strengthening local government’s role as a partner in development” SGA III between CLGF and EU (2022-2025) - Ongoing advocacy with institutional partners including EU delegations on behalf of Local Government - Regular participation to voice of Global Local Government perspective at EU Policy Forum for Development (PFD) meetings for CSOs and Local Government - Regional meetings of the local government sector in East Africa, Caribbean, Southern Africa, West Africa, Pacific - Monitoring and Evaluating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Jamaica, Ghana & Rwanda (concluded May 22)

Additional Information
CLGF has a Framework Partnership Agreement with the European Union which was renewed in September 2021, this runs until 2025. Linked to this FPA CLGF has a Strategic Grant Agreement to fund specific activities aligned to the key joint priorities of the Partnership.
