Mission & Goals

A diverse and multifaceted organisation Protection of the Alps from the top down, at national government level? Or from the bottom up, together with the communities and the population? CIPRA is convinced that both are important. On the one hand, CIPRA has initiated and shaped an international treaty like the Alpine Convention and on the other hand, it supports communal networks and reorganises them in a spirit of cooperation with the local authorities. On the other hand, it supports municipal networks and encourages the participation of civil society - a proven dual strategy for the protection of the Alps.We work from the top down by getting involved in technical and political bodies and contributing our expertise and perspectives there. Bringing perspectives. These are guided by the priorities of the Alpine Convention. Controversial issues, together with ideas are presented to policy makers, including environment ministers, in the Alpine countries and other regional entities.

EU Legislative Interests

CIPRA International takes part in EUSALP working groups, Interreg projects, Erasmus+ projects, Alpine Space Projects, ARPAF project European Parliament resolution on the European Green Deal. Support of the Eurovignette Directive. Part of the enlarged stakeholder board of the Biodiversa Partnership (https://www.biodiversa.org/)

Communication Activities

In its ERASMUS projects, CIPRA brings together young people from all over the Alpine region at kick-off events, interim meetings and final events. The other partners in the projects also organise their own meetings. Examples in 2025: - Via Alpina Youth (https://www.cipra.org/en/cipra/international/projects/current/via-alpina-youth-2013-walking-the-change?set_language=en) - Young glacier voices (https://www.cipra.org/en/projects/young-glacier-voices) With its project development department CIPRA Lab GmbH, CIPRA is involved in Interreg Alpine Space projects. In its role as a border organisation, CIPRA has organised various communication and dissemination activities (translation of scientific results into everyday language). In particular, CIPRA has carried out projects in the field of sustainable commuter mobility, climate protection of young people and communities and strengthening youth participation. CIPRA continuously organises workshops and events with the political working bodies in the Alps such as the Alpine Convention, the Alpine Climate Committee of the Alpine Convention, EUSALP, etc. - https://www.cipra.org/en/cipra/international/projects/current/ground-breaking?set_language=en - https://www.cipra.org/en/cipra/international/projects/current/stonerich?set_language=en - https://www.cipra.org/en/cipra/international/projects/current/climate-friendly-streetscapes?set_language=en For other activities please have a look on our website: https://www.cipra.org/en/international/our-work/projects-activities
