Mission & Goals

Climate Alliance is a European city network uniting local authorities and indigenous rainforest peoples in their efforts to mitigate climate change. Climate Alliance currently counts over 2,000 member municipalities and regions in more than 25 European countries. Its activities are coordinated by the European Secretariat based in Frankfurt (DE) and its Brussels office. Climate Alliance supports its members in achieving their voluntary commitments to strive for a 95% reduction in GHG emissions by 2050 compared to 1990 levels, to implement effective and comprehensive climate action and to promote climate justice. The Brussels Office advocates for improved legal framework for local authorities and for recognising their role in the European climate and energy policy, as well as for funding opportunities for local authorities for implementing their climate actions. Climate Alliance also coordinates together with other European city networks the Covenant of Mayors initiative.
