Mission & Goals
Background to the Christchurch Call: Launched in 2019 by then New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and France President Emmanuel Macron following the Christchurch mosque attacks, the Christchurch Call bring together governments, tech companies, and civil society around a set of commitments to eliminate terrorist and violent extremist content online while protecting an open internet. The Foundation, established in 2024 and registered as a charity in New Zealand, provides permanent structure to support this multistakeholder community. The European Commission and all 27 Member States are supporters of the Call.
EU Legislative Interests
Policies related to the EU counter-terrorism strategies, including the EU Regulation on Terrorist Content Online, and digital policies, including the Digital Services Act.
Communication Activities
Convening and curating a multistakeholder community to work on countering terrorist and violent extremist content online, including participation of European Union stakeholders. We do not engage in targeted campaigns.
