Mission & Goals
ChatLicense acts as Digital Driver's License for the first smartphone. The app is a 2-in-1: the Game educates children to go online safe, sane & happy and the Guide empowers parents to help. Children & parents can discover the both the risks and opportunities of the online world and how to effectively deal with them. The learning method is developed by an interdisciplinary expert team working together with researchers from several universities in Europe, based on the scientific Media Empowerment Model of the Erasmus University Rotterdam. ChatLicense partners with telcos, banks, insurance companies and governments to make a (paid) family subscription available for free for all families, worldwide. Scaling internationally, the app is currently available in English, Dutch, Flemish (July '25) & French (Sept '25). Out of more than 500 companies participating, the app was awarded the Winner of the Global Digital Wellbeing Challenge organised by Singularity University in November 2024.

Communication Activities
In the app, ChatLicense provides understandable and simple three bulleted explanations about general conditions of apps and legislation - things that are hard for the public to read and understand, but important for them to grasp at least top level. As the content can be constantly updated, and as the users are a wide audience of parents and kids, ChatLicense offers an important opportunity for communications with people on cybersecurity and other elements that touch upon the citizens' digital resilience. ChatLicense also aims to work with UN bodies and organizations supporting children's rights, to affirm these rights are upheld and respected in the online domain.
