Mission & Goals

The Portuguese Footwear Technology Centre (CTCP) is a non-profit private organization founded in 1986 to support the Portuguese footwear industry cluster, including leather goods, accessories, rubber and plastics components, footwear machinery, sectorial software companies. Currently, about 390 companies are CTCP members. CTCP has a multidisciplinary team of 69 professionals and adequate infrastructures acting in key and strategic areas contributing to the competitiveness of footwear cluster, such as: R&D&I of materials, products, technologies and processes. Technology transfer and projects results dissemination. Materials and products testing. Products certification and CE marking. Implementation of quality, environmental, social responsibility certification schemes. Technical assistance and industrial consultancy. Plant design and investment studies. Environment and energy efficiency studies and innovation. Health & safety studies and innovation. Training. Sectorial strategic.

EU Legislative Interests

CTCP is closely monitoring the evolution of European legislation and working groups and projects related to the topic and carrying out work on relevant diplomas for the footwear Cluster industry, namely: - Product Environmental Footwear Category Rules (PEFCR): PEF apparel and footwear - REACH regulation (EC) n.º 1907/2006 - Directive (EU) 2022/2646: Corporate sustainability report - Directive (EU) 2024/825: Empowering consumers for the green transition through better protection against unfair practices and through better information - Regulation (EU) 2023/1115: Deforestation and forest degradation - Regulation (EU) 2023/2055: REACH - Synthetic polymer microparticles - Regulation 2024/1781: Ecodesign requirements for sustainable products - Directive (EU) 2024/1760: Corporate sustainability due diligence - Regulation (EU) 2023/988: General product safety - COM (2023 166 final: Green Claims Directive - COM (2023) 420 final: Waste/EPR - COM (2022) 453 final: Prohibition products made with forced labour on the union market - COM (2023) 645 final: Preventing plastic pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution CTCP activities are also aligned with the following strategies and plans (among others): - Building the Single Market for Green Products - SMEs strategy for a sustainable and digital - European green deal - New circular economy plan - EU new industrial strategy - Fit 55 - A Green Deal Industrial Plan for the Net-Zero Age - Europe's 2040 climate target and path to climate neutrality by 2050 building a sustainable, just and prosperous society
