Mission & Goals
CIMMYT (the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center) is a non-profit international research organization whose mission is to transform agri-food systems to be more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable. Under its Strategy 2030, CIMMYT focuses on delivering science and innovation that support climate adaptation and mitigation, sustainable intensification, biodiversity conservation, and improved nutrition and livelihoods for smallholder farmers. CIMMYT works through partnerships with governments, research institutions, the private sector, and civil society to generate evidence, technologies, and policy-relevant insights that contribute to food security, poverty reduction, and environmental sustainability. Its work supports global and regional policy processes related to agriculture, climate change, development cooperation, and sustainable food systems.
EU Legislative Interests
CIMMYT engages with European Union institutions to provide independent scientific evidence and technical expertise relevant to EU policy frameworks related to sustainable agriculture, climate change, food security, and international development cooperation. This includes, but is not limited to, the EU Green Deal, Farm to Fork Strategy, EU Climate Adaptation Strategy, and the EU’s external action and development cooperation policies supporting resilient agri-food systems in low- and middle-income countries. CIMMYT’s contributions are evidence-based and aim to inform policy discussions and implementation through research findings, data, and practical experience from global agricultural systems.
Communication Activities
Communication activities include participation in policy dialogues, technical briefings, conferences, workshops, and consultation processes organized by EU institutions or partners. CIMMYT shares research outputs through scientific publications, policy briefs, presentations, and knowledge products that contribute to discussions on sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, food systems transformation, and development cooperation. These activities are undertaken in a transparent manner and are focused on disseminating evidence and research-based insights rather than promoting commercial or sectoral interests.
