EU Legislative Interests

CEFTUS's engagement with EU institutions primarily focuses on contributing to and influencing EU foreign policy, enlargement policy, and neighborhood policy concerning Turkey, the Western Balkans, the broader Middle East (including Iraq, Iran, and Syria), and relevant parts of Africa (such as Sudan). This includes monitoring and providing insights on relevant EU strategies, proposals, and initiatives related to: EU-Turkey relations: Including accession process (even if stalled), customs union, trade, and political dialogue. Regional stability and security: Focusing on the geopolitical landscape, conflict resolution, and human rights in the broader region. Democracy, rule of law, and fundamental rights: Particularly as they pertain to countries in the EU's neighborhood and other areas of interest. Economic cooperation and development: Within the context of EU external relations with Turkey, the region, and relevant African nations. Our activities, such as organizing conferences with MEPs, aim to foster informed debate and provide expert analysis to EU decision-makers and stakeholders on these critical policy areas.
