Mission & Goals

CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions. Founded in 2000 and working with more than 680 financial institutions with over $130 trillion in assets, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Nearly 20,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2022, including more than 18,700 companies worth half of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy.

Communication Activities

The annual CDP Europe Awards serves as a cornerstone, uniting corporate, investor, and public sector leaders to engage in critical discussions and spur the needed actions to meet the EU's climate and environmental objectives. Held annually in a European capital, this paramount event enables vital networking and debates amongst Europe's preeminent private sector actors, policymakers, and climate and environmental experts, aspiring to stimulate key decision-makers across Europe to elevate their ambitions and drive the transition to a low-carbon, resource-secure economy. During the event, accolades are extended to the winners of CDP's annual scoring of environmental performance, spotlighting the CDP A List for European corporates and the Cities, States and Regions (see more about CDP Europe awards here: https://www.cdp.net/en/events/cdp-europe-awards/2023/). In addition to our annual awards, CDP is committed to knowledge sharing and policy development through the dissemination of a monthly policy newsletter to our stakeholders and the frequent formulation of policy briefs/reports, deriving from our profound data insights and policy analysis activities. Furthermore, CDP actively engages in meetings and encounters with policymakers and NGO representatives, ensuring our initiatives on climate and environmental topics are distinctly positioned and resonate within the policy development discourse. CDP leverages social media campaigns to communicate its position on policy files that impact Earth-positive decision-making. These campaigns highlight data and insights disclosed through CDP’s platform, aiming to drive more ambitious climate and environmental action. CDP’s communication activities reflect its policy analysis, advocacy, and engagement. Additionally, CDP fosters knowledge sharing and policy development through newsletters and regular policy briefs and reports, derived from in-depth data insights and analysis.
