Mission & Goals
Caritas Europa is the European network of 49 member organisations in 46 countries across the European continent, including all member states of the European Union and the vast majority of Council of Europe member countries. Caritas Europa has a permanent secretariat in Brussels, Belgium. The secretariat ensures that our members' messages and policy demands are heard by European institutions such as the European Union and the Council of Europe. All our calls for change are based on the experiences of Caritas teams working on the ground. The secretariat also promotes the active exchange of experiences, skills, and means between the member organisations. It establishes tools and mechanisms to strengthen and professionalise the role and work of the member organisations in their countries. When an emergency hits Europe, the secretariat coordinates to ensure that the means that the member organisations can mobilise, are used as efficiently as possible.

Communication Activities
Caritas Europa (CE) carries out diverse communication activities—including events, campaigns, and publications—directly linked to the EU policy agendas mentioned above. Our engagement at the EU level aims to inform and support policy initiatives through collaboration with EU institutions, member States, and other stakeholders. CE aims to ensure that policy developments reflect the needs and perspectives of people experiencing poverty and exclusion, promoting solidarity, equity, and human dignity. CE raises awareness of social rights and social justice to encourage policy change and contribute to a more inclusive Europe. In terms of EU international policies, CE extends these values to promote global justice and strong European international cooperation and humanitarian frameworks that address poverty, inequalities and humanitarian crises. To achieve this, CE regularly disseminates articles, stories, position and, briefing papers, joint calls with other networks, statements, press releases, opinion pieces, and publications via its website, newsletters, mailing lists, and social media. These materials are based on evidence from members of our confederation working with affected communities across Europe and worldwide. Our network amplifies impact by further dissemination at the national and international levels. CE’s policy events and campaigns bring together diverse stakeholders—including policymakers, authorities, civil society, academia, social service and emergency response providers, and vulnerable people—to discuss policy challenges and share good practices. These activities empower grassroots voices and inform policies on issues such as fair minimum income, migrant integration, disaster risk reduction, debt justice, and sustainable development. Targeted, thematic campaigns—especially on social media—focus on key policy files throughout the year and are supported and amplified by member organisations across Europe and through Caritas Internationalis’ global network.
