Mission & Goals

Business Angels Europe (BAE) is the European Confederation of Angel Investing, representing the European Business Angels' Federations and Trade associations in Europe. BAE brings together the most active and developed countries operating in the angel market in Europe. Our objectives are the following: Creating a connected ecosystem for angel investing across Europe, working with key players across the finance and business marketplace Ensuring a supportive fiscal and regulatory framework for angel investing across Europe. Promoting the growth of the angel market in Europe and raising awareness of angel investing to individuals with the capacity to invest, bringing both finance and experience to small businesses.

EU Legislative Interests

capital market union 28th regime for startups and angel investors We have been specifically targeting the Capital Markets Union. Our latest targeted influencing activity was on 24 and 25 May 2023, where we presented our Manifesto to a group of European Commision policy professionals from DG RTD, DG Grow, JRC and DG Regio, as listed on page 3 of the manifesto. Please find the link here: https://df3eed2c-d85a-430e-b9e2-4edc91e9cb90.usrfiles.com/ugd/df3eed_6bef35223d4145649086fb1f0dfe7142.pdf. Before that, in 2022, we published a position paper with Invest Europe with several policy proposals (https://www.businessangelseurope.com/post/turning-start-ups-into-scale-ups).

We have interacted previously with the European Parliament specifically in the context of our gender focussed programmes, but we are not part of a parliamentary intergroup.

We chose not to list these as members this time, because these in fact are partnerships, where we collaborate on initiatives only when there is specific overlap.

Additional Information

The costs are this high because we are involved in a grant project funded by the European Commission (funded by EISMEA, Project 101120693 — EmpoWOMEN). As this grant project also comprises 'contacts with the EU institutions', we felt it transparent to submit the budget of this specific project. However, this grant project does not at all have as a goal to influence law or policy making, we could also remove it completely, but that would, again, not be deemed transparent by us.
