Mission & Goals
We are a private, not for profit organization representing the UK stakeholders interests. We're appointed by the government to develop British Standards and represent the UK’s interests in standards development at a European and global level. As the UK's NSB, we work under a memorandum of understanding with the UK Government and provide solutions to support policy, growth, innovation and deliver trust for the benefit of all sectors and society.
EU Legislative Interests
As a member of the European Standards Organizations, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, BSI has a significant interest in all harmonized legislation supported by the technical standards developed within these ESOs. Although these are EU regulations, certain regulations, such as Regulation 1025, affect BSI in the same way as all other National Standards Bodies, as we are required to implement and comply with them by virtue of our membership in the European Standards Organizations. Regulation 1049 is also of interest.
