Mission & Goals
BGCI's mission is to mobilise botanic gardens and engage partners in securing plant diversity for the well-being of people and the planet.
EU Legislative Interests
BGCI convenes the European Botanic Gardens Consortium, which is an 'network of networks'. The Consortium consists representatives of the botanic garden networks of each European country. The Consortium focuses on supporting European botanic gardens in relation to national and international biodiversity policy implementation, especially the Convention on Biological Diversity, the European Biodiversity Strategy and the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing.
Communication Activities
Through our membership, implementation of EU policies on biodiversity conservation, invasive alien species and access and benefit sharing. BGCI, in partnership with the Council of Europe has published a Code of Conduct for botanic gardens on Invasive Alien Species. BGCI also works with European botanic gardens on education, communications and public awareness activites
