Mission & Goals

At Biolectric, our mission is to help farmers operate more sustainably through solutions that combine environmental impact with a solid business case. Our technology is built on the principle of the circular economy and uses manure and slurry only as feedstock. We design and deliver small-scale biogas and biomethane installations across 10 European countries, enabling farmers to produce renewable electricity or biomethane directly from their own manure. According to research from Wageningen University (WUR), this can reduce up to 82% of greenhouse gas emissions from manure. Combined with nitrogen stripping, farmers can further reduce ammonia emissions by up to 65%. With >400 operational installations, we work closely with local governments and food industry partners to accelerate the transition toward a low-carbon, circular agriculture.

EU Legislative Interests

Our main objective is to raise awareness of farm-scale anaerobic digestion, a proven solution already adopted by more than 400 European farmers. The best solution to maximize GHG emission reduction from manure. We observe that many European policymakers are not yet aware that biogas can be produced sustainably at small, on-farm scale, with major advantages such as much higher GHG reduction potential, avoidance of slurry transport, less impact on environment, and prevention of disease spreading. Our activities are closely aligned with several EU initiatives, including: - The Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) – particularly Annex IX Part A on advanced biofuels from animal manure. - The European Green Deal and its related Farm to Fork Strategy. - The EU Methane Strategy and the Methane Action Plan under the Climate Law. - The Circular Economy Action Plan, focusing on nutrient recycling and local energy valorisation. - The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plans, promoting on-farm sustainability and innovation. Through our representation, we aim to contribute to evidence-based policymaking that supports small-scale renewable gas production and circular farming models across Europe.

Communication Activities

As an SME of around 50 colleagues, we do not have large marketing or lobbying budgets. Instead, our communication efforts focus on direct engagement with policymakers through on-farm visits and demonstrations, allowing them to experience the impact of our technology firsthand and meet the farmers who use it. Several of our customers have independently hosted visits from EU representatives — including Commissioners Hansen and Rosswal earlier this year — to showcase how small-scale biogas can contribute to the European Green Deal and methane reduction goals. With the launch of our new biomethane product line, we would be honoured to invite Commissioner Hoekstra to officially inaugurate it, as it strongly aligns with his vision for a climate-resilient and circular agricultural sector.

Additional Information

We're a true engineering company, that invests our funds in our product rather thant the marketing, communications, lobby etc. around it. We have two colleagues including myself representing Biolectric to external stakeholders. We try to monitor EU policies through an AI solution powered by ChatGPT & Gemini.
