Mission & Goals

The Association's mission is to promote the bioeconomy in the UK and specifically the development of markets for bio-based and biodegradable products and chemicals as well as their production in the UK. The association represents those industries active in these markets, and affiliated organisations and consultancies.

Communication Activities

The Association was established in June 2015. Since then it has participated in the UK on the legislation regarding shopping (carrier) bags; Circular Economy and waste policy; soil quality; and has held several events including an annual summer public meeting and an annual autumn public meeting. Currrently BBIA is focusing on the UK industrial, waste and resources, plastics, and bioeconomy strategies of the Government.

Member Of

BBIA is a member of BON, the Bioplastics Organisations Network, loosely managed by the European Bioplastics Association. BBIA is also member of the Scottish IBIOIC, and is member of two committees on the British Standards Institute, dealing with compostable packaging and Circular Economy. BBIA is a member of the UK Renewable Energy Association which promotes the treatment of organic waste in composting and anaerobic digestion.

Additional Information

The annual accounts which formed the basis of the submission to Companies House in the UK for the calendar year 2022, show an income of £113,809 and expenditure of £100,877 and a surplus of £12,932.
