Mission & Goals
Baltic International Academy (BIA) is a 1992-founded Latvian non-governmental HEI of Applied Sciences with a scientific strategic specialisation in Social Sciences. The BIA's mission is to ensure the highly qualified, competitive, long-term, and sustainable development of Latvian and global society by providing high-quality and internationally recognised higher education and educational services and preparing specialists in social and humanities study fields based on integration with the Latvian and international economic and educational communities, science, and research. Therefore, our footprint is based on the blending of arts, economics and entrepreneurial education, science and research.
EU Legislative Interests
This includes all proposals, programmes, policies, and initiatives related to research and innovation, Horizon Europe 2028-2034, science policy, education, training and youth policy, socially responsible activities such as social and demographic challenges and migration issues, micro-credentials, sustainable development with a focus on collaboration between higher education and industry, ethical and environmental principles, human rights with an emphasis on children's rights, vocational education and professional development, culture and creativity, European faculty and university associations, ERASMUS+, the European Regional Development and Social Funds, the EEA, etc.

The most important European projects: - ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE-STRAND-1: “Good Governance Practice: European Experience for Ukraine”; - ERASMUS-EDU-2024-VIRT-EXCH: Skills Enrichment for Adaptive Leadership in the New Reality (SEAL-NR); - Erasmus+ CBHE: Enhancing Green Economy in 3 countries of Asia (EGEA); - European Law Faculty Association (ELFA): Modern Features of Human Rights Protection in the Countries of the Three Seas; - Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) of the European Union and state budget co-financing: Integration ABC – 3 and Integration ABC – 4; - State Education Development Agency: Funding of Study Scholarships for Civilians from Ukraine and Funding of Research Fellowships for Researchers from Ukraine; - ERASMUS+ KA2 "Cooperation for innovation and Exchange of Good Practices" KA202 Strategic Partnership programme: Innovation and Continuing Education in Destination Management (DEMINA); - Social Integration Foundation (SIF): "Latvian Language Lessons for Ukrainian Civilians" (2023 and 2024); - ERASMUS+ KA131 and KA171; - The European Union's Cohesion programme: "Business and Event Tourism Cooperation Network" (project No. 1.2.3.6/2/24/A/007) implemented by the association "Latvian Congress Bureau", 2021–2027, Priority 1.2 "Support for Entrepreneurship", Specific Support Objective 1.2.3 "Promoting sustainable growth, competitiveness and job creation in SMEs, including through productive investments" 1.2.3.6. Measure "Tourism Product Development Programme" (The BIA's task was to research the development of the tourism product - a platform for corporate activities, interactive excursions, and DPT specialised products); - USAID National Governance Programme activity “Strengthening Public Administration University Programs” in cooperation with Research Institute of Public Administration of the Technical University of Georgia (Georgia): Transformative Learning: Integrating Hands-On AI Experience into Public Administration Programmes (the BIA’s role as a consultant included contributing to research methodology and comparative analysis, sharing EU experiences, and preparing policy recommendations); - ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP): Digital Business and Finance: Managing for Tomorrow; - Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation supported project: The Road to Peace: Conflict, Technology and Innovation (is implemented in cooperation with the Technical University of Georgia (Georgia), BIA acts as a consultant). Served as a representative of the Latvian Confederation of Employers in the BIAC (Business at OECD) Education Committee, participating in OECD meetings on local employment and economic development, and BIAC Education Committee sessions. BIA has been a member of the OECD National Expert Group since June 2023. BIA is a member of the Demos Kratos European University Alliance and belongs to the Three Seas University Network (3SUN). Additional Information
According to Latvian legislation, the financial year of higher education institutions is shifted by half a year. Therefore, the financial year does not coincide with the calendar year.
