Mission & Goals

Børns Vilkår (Children's Welfare) is a Danish NGO established in 1977 with over 73.000 members and supporters, 200 staff members and more than 800 volunteers. Our work includes running the national child helpline, helping children through the more than 60.000 annual conversations and ensuring that policy makers in Denmark as well as in the EU ensures that legislation always protects and supports the rights of the child. We also provide workshops for children, teachers and parents as well as have a helpline for parents and teachers. We are the largest knowledge centre for children’s voices, rights and wellbeing in Denmark. We accomplish this by using the children’s concerns and stories to generate data as well as conduct in-depth research, which includes large quantitative questionnaires with large samples of school children as well as qualitative research. Børns Vilkår is a member of Eurochild and Child Helpline International.

EU Legislative Interests

Our focus on an EU-level is ensuring child-centred tech policy, which is why especially the Digital Services Act, AI-ACT etc. the expert group on EU Code of Conduct on Age-Appropriate Design and the coming act on stopping child sexual abuse material online is of importance to us.

Communication Activities

We have participated in panel discussions with MEP Christel Schaldemose. Furthermore, we have expressed our concerns for children's rights in the Digital Services Act and the AI-Act in Danish media. We are selected as one of the 21 experts on the EU age appropriate design code.
