Mission & Goals
The Associazione Apnoici Italiani APS is a social promotion patient association founded and run by patients with Sleep Apnoea (OSA- Sleep Apnoea) and Sleep Disorders. Its main mission is to spread knowledge about this under-diagnosed and under-treated condition. There are an estimated 34 Million children and adults in Europe who are affected without knowing it, only about 10% of these are diagnosed and in treatment. Failure to diagnose and treat, in addition to causing a low quality of life, can cause these patients to develop other very disabling diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, Atrial Fibrillation, Hypertension, and Stroke. We are active in protecting patients' rights, particularly for risks related to ventilatory therapies referred to in the recent European Field Safety Notices and for regulations related to fitness to drive for patients with Sleep Apnoea. A patient on therapy has a cost/annual cost of about 1,500 euros; a patient not on therapy has direct and indirect.

Apnoici Italiani Association, has not received any public funds or from the European community. It had in 2022 a total budget of 4.234.778,37 euros. This Budget includes a cash surplus from the previous fiscal year 2024, a contribution from patients members through tax returns called 5 per thousand, liberal donations from Medtech and pharmaceutical companies and sponsorships from Medtech companies.
