Mission & Goals

ARTE was founded on 30 April 1991. Its member companies are the European economic interest grouping ARTE E.E.I.G, ARTE France and ARTE Deutschland TV GmbH. Its mission, as described in Article 2 of the E.E.I.G’s formation agreement, is “to conceive and produce television programmes which (…) are cultural and international in character and conducive to promoting understanding and cooperation between Europe’s nations and to broadcast these programmes or to authorize their broadcast”. This joint television channel should bring French and German citizens closer on a cultural level and promote cultural integration throughout Europe. In addition to broadcasting all its programmes in French and German, around 1800 programmes per year of ARTE’s programmes are available in six languages on arte.tv.

Additional Information

Please note that following the feedback we received from the Transparency Register Secretariat, we have changed the method used to declare the grants in comparison to the previous years: we have declared the grants we received and 'spend' for the tasks we carried out with regard to the projects funded through each grant. We have not declared the amounts we simply transfered to our partners for the projets which are carried out as part of a consortium.
