Mission & Goals
APT was established in 2003 and represents 23 independent proprietary trading firms based in the Netherlands towards legislators, regulators, exchanges and European institutions. Since the opening of the first European options exchange in 1978, Amsterdam has become one of the most important global centers for proprietary trading, together with Chicago and London. Amsterdam harbors a significant concentration of bigger and smaller-sized independent trading firms. Our members purchase and sell financial instruments for their own account and risk. Most of our members operate as market makers on exchanges inside and outside of the EU and have registered as market makers pursuant to MiFID II’s market obligation, committing to continuously providing liquidity to European markets under all circumstances.
