Mission & Goals

The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) is the voice of the leading banks in Europe’s financial markets, providing expertise across a broad range of regulatory and capital markets issues. We represent over 150 leading global and European banks and other significant market players. Our members play a vital role in Europe’s financial ecosystem, underwriting around 90% of European corporate and sovereign debt, and 85% of European listed equity capital issuances. We advocate for deep and competitive, integrated capital markets globally, which support companies and investors, facilitating economic growth

EU Legislative Interests

AFME follows all EU initiatives affecting wholesale financial markets and banks, including: Competitiveness Compass, Savings and Investment Union/Capital Markets Union; Market Integration and Supervision Package (MISP), Securitisation Reform, MIFID II/MIFIR; Retail Investment Strategy, Listings Act, ESAP, EMIR, bank and non-bank micro and macro prudential requirements; analysis of and measures related to the competitiveness of the banking sector, sustainable finance and measures related to climate and environmental risk, the Implementation and Simplification Agenda, including related Omnibus proposals such as the Sustainable Finance Omnibus and the Digital Omnibus; Clean Industrial Deal, Capital Requirements Regulation and Directive (CRR/CRD), Bank Recovery and Resolution; Financial Transactions Tax; withholding taxes, other taxation issues; Benchmarks Regulation; ; developments in the European System of Financial Supervision; CRAs; ESG Ratings Regulation, Corporate Governance issues; Shareholders’ Rights, Financial Collateral; Central Securities Depositories Regulation, T+1 settlement cycle, Corporate Insolvency Law Harmonisation, Market Abuse Regulation, Banking Union, EDIS; Implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation, the implementation of the AML/CFT legislative package, AML regulation and supervision, Innovation and Digital Finance issues (e.g., MiCA, DORA, FiDA, Data and AI Act, DLT Pilot Regime, etc.), Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), Affordable Energy Action Plan, EU-UK relationship.
