Mission & Goals
The Association’s main goal is to work on democratic transparency and European participation in the democratic process at the European, National and Local level. Our main European project “Política Factual EU” aims to share what is being voted in the European Parliament, and to explain how the ordinary legislative procedure process works, promoting democracy in Europe. We share the information in a non-biased way, based only on the official European Institution’s sources. This way we promote an easy access to information, we tackle misinformation and we open the door to constructive discussions and debates. We also contribute to shaping better policies regarding the youth in the EU. At the national and local level we developed a Youth Handbook that promotes an equal access to opportunities by the youth, including EU opportunities.
EU Legislative Interests
Main EU legislative proposals or policies targeted: - Resolution of the Council of the European Union and the Representatives of the Governments of the Member States meeting within the Council on a framework for European cooperation in the youth field: The European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027 - Communication from the Commission to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social committee and the Committee of the Regions: An EU Agenda for the Rights of the Child - Regulation (EU) 2021/888 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 May 2021 establishing the European Solidarity Corps Programme for the period of the 2021-2027 and repealing Regulations (EU) 2018/1475 and (EU) Nº 375/2014 - Regulation (EU) 2021/817 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 May 2021 establishing Erasmus+: the Union Programme for education and training, youth and sport and repealing Regulation (EU) No 1288/2013 Considering that “Política Factual EU” Project also aims to encourage greater participation by young people in the European democratic process: - European Democracy Action Plan - Communication from the Commission put forward on 12 December 2023 to the European parliament, the council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions on Defence of democracy - Commission Recommendation (EU) 2023/2836 of 12 December 2023 on promoting the engagement and effective participation of citizens and civil society organisations in public policy-making processes - Commission Recommendation (EU) 2023/2829 of 12 December 2023 on inclusive and resilient electoral processes in the Union and enhancing the European nature and efficient conduct of the elections to the European Parliament - European Parliament legislative resolution of 3 May 2022 on the proposal for a Council Regulation on the election of the members of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage, repealing Council Decision (76/787/ECSC, EEC, Euratom) and the Act concerning the election of the members of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage annexed to that Decision - Proposal for a Council Directive laying down detailed arrangements for the exercise of the right to vote and stand as a candidate in elections to the European Parliament for Union citizens residing in a Member State of which they are not nationals - Proposal for a Council Directive laying down detailed arrangements for the exercise of the right to vote and to stand as a candidate in municipal elections by Union citizens residing in a Member State of which they are not nationals Since “Política Factual” action is based on the use of social networks to expose the results of votes in both the European Parliament and the Portuguese Parliament, it could be said that it is about promoting meaningful participation by young people in the democratic process using digital tools. It therefore seems appropriate to consider the following EU policies or legislative proposals: - European Parliament resolution of 5 October 2023 on the new European strategy for a better internet for kids - Commission communication of 11 May 2022 entitled ‘A Digital Decade for children and youth: the new European strategy for a better internet for kids - Joint Communication to the European Parliament and the Council: Youth Action Plan (YAP) in EU external action 2022 – 2027 entitled “Promoting meaningful youth participation and empowerment in EU external action for sustainable development, equality and peace”
Communication Activities
Our action was divided in in person and online activities. As for the in person events, we organised with the Portuguese MEPs and the Portuguese trainees of the EU Institutions in Brussels four events in order to discuss several topics in a constructive way. These events were round tables with the participants, divided in different groups, that would switch every 45 minutes, allowing the Portuguese trainees with a wide range of expertises and backgrounds to have direct conversations with the MEPs from different committees. As most trainees were young people, it was also focused on youth participationby creating genuine opportunities and appropriate means of participation for the youth to engage with EU stakeholders, ensuring a meaningful impact that would lead to more participation in the European elections, which are still underrated in Portugal. This is directly related to the previous initiatives like the European Democracy Action Plan, Defense of democracy, participation of citizens and civil society organisations in public policy-making processes, and the ones related. Those events occurred in February 2024, November 2024, April 2025 and January 2026. In accordance with the Commission Recommendation (EU) 2023/2836, our project aims at providing access to key information about the ordinary legislative procedure. By disseminating important information on the files being discussed on our social media platforms we had several publications and promoted online events that contributed to a better understanding of the policies under negotiation. Up until now, we have created explanatory videos on what was being voted in the European Parliament and how the institutions works, promoting in an exempt way an informed vote among the youth. In specific, we have developed capacity building initiatives aimed at exploring the different platforms of the European Union Institutions, the trialogues dynamics and, within the scope of interinstitutional negotiations, the role the European Parliament plays to reach a first reading position on a specific file. Furthermore, taking a more practical approach, we also focused on initiatives on engaging youth in the electoral process by training them how to follow-up on the votes of the MEPs, and how to find the files under negotiations in the different platforms of the European Institutions. Once the votes are cast, Politica Factual shares the vote results from the MEPs according to their political groups, following a unbiased and factual methodology. Additionally, in each publication, the vote cast is accompanied by a summary for those interested Our online presence started in Portugal, with all the content being in Portuguese. Given the positive feedback and international interest, we are expecting to reach the 27 member states by the end of 2027. Currently we have an international page (EN), and for the countries of Portugal, Spain, Malta, Ireland, Cyprus, Poland, Italy, France, The Netherlands and Germany. Additional Information
Our organisation only started its activity in December 2024, and we had no income and no expenses on that year. In 2025 we had small events that were funded by small private donations. We already registered for the Erasmus+ application (OID E10387353), in order to apply for future funding. As all the members are volunteers, so we do not have permanent a staff cost. We have some costs related with technology, like Adobe permits and website domain. Other technologies we are using the non-profit premium version like Google Workspaces and Canva for outreach and inner management. We also have some travelling to Brussels costs, rounding 600EUR per trip. We had 1 trip in 2025, to Brussels, rounding up 600EUR, covered by the volunteers.
