Mission & Goals
ABPA is a non-profit organization composed of the Brazilian producers and exporters of poultrymeat, pigmeat and eggs. ABPA has 140 members and works for the continuous development of its industries, ensuring their quality and assisting them in reaching new markets.
EU Legislative Interests
ABPA makes a regular follow up, study and analysis of the following, but not limited to, EU policies and EU legislative proposals: • Trade policy, with special attention to agriculture and agrobusiness in the context of the relations between EU and Latin America • Public Health policy, with special attention to topics like food safety & quality, farming, sustainable agriculture, animal & animal products (poultry, pork and eggs), animal by-products, zoonotic threats, antimicrobial resistance; • Consumers policy • Implementation and debates about the Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 May 2023 on the making available on the Union market and the export from the Union of certain commodities and products associated with deforestation and forest degradation and repealing Regulation (EU) No 995/2010 • Updates (amendments of Annexes) via delegated and implementing acts of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/404 of 24 March 2021 laying down the lists of third countries, territories or zones thereof from which the entry into the Union of animals, germinal products and products of animal origin is permitted in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/429 of the European Parliament and the Council • Amendments to annexes to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011 of 25 May 2011 implementing Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the list of approved active substances • Updates via delegated and implementing acts of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2771/75 of 29 October 1975 on the common organization of the market in eggs • Amendments of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2777/75 of 29 October 1975 on the common organization of the market in poultrymeat • Commission delegated Regulation (EU) …/...of 6.10.2025 supplementing Regulation (EU) No 1308/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards marketing standards for poultrymeat, and repealing Commission Regulation (EC) No 543/2008 • Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council implementing the bilateral safeguard clause of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement and the EU-Mercosur Interim Trade Agreement for agricultural products • Implementation and debates about the Partnership Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, and the Common Market of the South, the Argentine Republic, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Paraguay and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (hereinafter referred to as ‘the EU-MERCOSUR Partnership Agreement’) • Idem Interim Agreement on Trade between the European Union, of the one part, and the Common Market of the South, the Argentine Republic, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Paraguay and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay • Updates via delegated and implementing acts of Council Directive 98/58/EC of 20 July 1998 concerning the protection of animals kept for farming purposes • Idem Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 of 22 December 2004 on the protection of animals during transport and related operations • Scientific opinions by the European Food Safety Agencies related to areas of interest of ABPA: animal welfare, public health, animal health and food residues • Updates related to imports of poultrymeat from EU Rapid Alert System on Food and Feed (RASFF)
Communication Activities
• Weekly internal newsletter detailing the activity of the EU institutions, agencies, member states and private stakeholders on the EU policies, topics and legislative proposals described above. • Debates organized in the European Parliament under the patronage of Members of the Parliament • Social media • EU-Brazilian Business Network (in partnership with the State Agency Apex) • Organization of informative sessions in the Brazilian Embassies in the 27 Member States to promote and secure ABPA interests • Annual participation in SIAL Paris and ANUGA Köln - promotion of Brazilian brands #Brazilianchicken #Brazilianeggs
