Our goals are: - Increase awareness and engagement with the activities of international financial institutions in Central and Eastern Europe and their environmental and social impact. - Promote transparency of decision-making and public participation in relation to the policies and projects of international financial institutions and in relation to any decisions with an environmental impact taken by any national or international institutions. - Defend the right to a healthy environment, protection of nature, prevention of climate change, protection of the urban environment, promotion of renewable energy sources, promotion of environmentally friendly living patterns, by any legal means. - St (...)

EU Legislative Interests

We are aiming to influence policy files under the Fit for 55 package (in particular the Renewable Energy Directive, Energy Efficiency Directive, Social Climate Fund, Emission Trading Scheme, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) and the Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) and Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) list and other pieces of legislation stemming from the European Green Deal initiative. We have been closely monitoring the transposition and the implementation at national level of the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment and the Aarhus Convention and other EU environmental legislation. We have been interacting with EU institutions and been working actively on EU funding schemes that relate to the energy and environmental transition, such as the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Cohesion Policy funds (such as the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund regulation and the Just Transition Fund), the Modernisation Fund, the InvestEU programme and the Connecting Europe Facility. At national level we have been involved in working groups and interacted closely with national authorities regarding these topics.

Communication Activities

We publish regularly on our website (www.bankwatch.ro) all results from our campaign activities and publications developped on topics related to the processes listed above.
