Communication Activities

SABIR – THE WIDESPREAD FESTIVAL OF MEDITERRANEAN CULTURES – ARCS has participated in the the tenth anniversary of the Sabir Festival hosted in Prato from April 18 to 20, reaffirming the Festival as a space for dialogue, exchange, and the construction of a shared Mediterranean language based on rights, solidarity, and the dignity of people on the move. The Festival featured three days of meetings, debates, training sessions, exhibitions, music, and film screenings. The Prato edition welcomed the participation of activists, legal practitioners, researchers, journalists, and representatives of civil society and local communities. The Festival provided an important opportunity to analyze the ongoing social and cultural transformations and to promote practices of hospitality and active citizenship in response to the growing climate of exclusion and discrimination. From October 10 to 12, 2024, the second stage of the Sabir Festival took place in Rome, focusing on the theme of international solidarity and the leadership of migrants and refugees. The Rome edition reaffirmed the urgency of a cultural and political alternative based on human rights, social justice, and the historical memory of the Mediterranean. Hosted in various venues across the capital, the Festival featured cultural events, roundtables, performances, and workshops that brought together artists, activists, researchers, institutional representatives, and social organizations. The Sabir festival is an essential contribution to the European pillar of social rights and the SDGs 2030. As part of the European exchange Generazione Solidale, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, ARCS APS hosted the Workshop on Intersectionality, organized in collaboration with the association Inclusiv3. The event brought together young participants from Finland, Sweden, Ireland, and Italy for a series of interactive and group activities aimed at deepening their understanding of the concept of intersectionality and fostering collective reflection on multiple forms of discrimination, identity, and inclusion. The workshop represented an important educational and exchange opportunity within the framework of European youth cooperation. This initiative contributed to the European policies on Youth, Gender equality strategy 2020-2025, Global Citizenship Education & People Engagement and Informal and non-formal learning. In line with the European Neighborhood Policy, from October 31 to November 3, 2024, the 26th edition of the Mediterranean Exchange of Archaeological Tourism enlivened Paestum with events celebrating Italian and Mediterranean cultural heritage. Among the key participants, AICS and ARCS APS presented the results of the Rinova project, particularly the work carried out at Ksar Ouled Soltane in Tunisia. Thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Nuoro, the project lead, and the Tunisian National Heritage Institute, the initiative brought new life to damaged local ksour, contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage of immense value. These efforts demonstrate the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in safeguarding the memory and identity of a region, fostering regional stability, mutual prosperity, and respect for cultural diversity. ARCS organized the event Intrecci, held in Rome at the Zalib bookshop, a day of dialogue and reflection as the closing event of the Look Up! project, co-funded by the Universal Civil Service Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Italian Youth Agency (Erasmus+ Programme). Through debates, music, screenings, and testimonies, the initiative focused on issues of inequality, rights, and the intersections between identities and territories. The voices of ARCS’ volunteers who returned from experiences in Cameroon, Jordan, Lebanon, Senegal, Tunisia, and Cuba were interwoven with those of people in Italy working on issues such as human trafficking, migration, and LGBTQIA+ rights. It was a day of art and dia
