EU Legislative Interests

Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/2292 of 6 September 2022 supplementing Regulation (EU) 2017/625 of the European Parliament and of the Council with regard to requirements for the entry into the Union of consignments of food-producing animals and certain goods intended for human consumption. The list of operators exporting honey to the EU must be included in a specific list. Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/36 of 11 January 2022 amending Annex III to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/2235 as regards model certificates for the entry into the Union of consignments of certain live aquatic animals and products of animal origin. Annex III to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/2235 lays down, in Chapter45, the model official certificate for the entry into the Union of honey and other beekeeping products intended for human consumption (model HON). In order to ensure the authenticity of such consignments, the guarantees should be improved by aligning them with certain rules laid down in Council Directive 2001/110/EC. It is therefore appropriate to amend this model accordingly. Proposal of points Traceability - with a block-chain system No longer allow filtered honeys- (mesh size min 100 µm) Prohibiting dehydration in vacuums Authorize the identification of unheated honeys (virgin honey, raw honey, etc.) based on invertase index (min 50 U/kg and 25 U/kg for low level of enzymes) Setting up a European reference laboratory and work on amendments (262 Con AGRI and 318 Com Envi)

Communication Activities

Apimondia was involved in the celebration of the World Bee Day 2025 within the United Nations' system, held virtually at FAO headquarters in in Jimma Town, Ethiopia. The celebration was followed by the 2nd International Forum for Action for Sustainable Beekeeping and Pollination. In 2026, the World Bee Day celebration will be staged in Rome, Italy, at FAO Headquarters and also in Maribor, Slovenia, with the 3rd International Forum for Action for Sustainable Beekeeping and Pollination. Apimondia is organising the 50th International Apicultural Jubilee Congress that will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in November 2027 with a foreseen attendance of 6,000 participants from around the world. Moreover, in September 2025 Apimondia organised the 49th Apimondia Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark with a total attendance of over 7000 participants. During the event the EU projects B-THENET, Bee-Guards and Insignia were were hosted in the Apimondia stand to illustrate and promote their activities. In April 2025 Apimondia organised a webinar on honey adulteration with the participation of the FAO Codex Alimentarius and the European Commission representatives.
