Mission & Goals
The Alliance Internationale pour la Défense des Droits et des Libertés (AIDL) is an independent, non-governmental, and non-profit international organisation, founded in 2009 and officially declared in France in 2014. It has held Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 2017. The AIDL acts as an international alliance dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and to the advancement of global peace based on justice and the rule of law. It works to combat all forms of violations, support victims of torture, enforced disappearance, and serious abuses, and ensure accountability for crimes against humanity. AIDL brings together an international network of experts, researchers, and advocates engaged in human rights, asylum, and conflict-related issues. It contributes to dialogue, mediation, peace-building, legislative participation, and the prevention of violence, discrimination, and hate speech.
EU Legislative Interests
The (AIDL) focuses on European policies and initiatives related to the protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the rule of law, justice, democracy, good governance, transparency, and anti-corruption, as well as environmental protection, climate justice, sustainable development, equality, the empowerment of women, and the inclusion of minorities and vulnerable groups. AIDL monitors and engages with key EU legislative and policy frameworks, including the implementation and update of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, the European framework for the protection of human rights defenders and civil society organisations, and discussions related to countering SLAPP lawsuits and safeguarding freedom of expression and media independence. It also follows EU initiatives on climate justice, the just green transition, democratic governance, institutional integrity, transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption policies. The organisation contributes to the development and implementation of these EU policies through institutional dialogue, human rights expertise, participation in EU public consultations, and cooperation with relevant EU institutions and bodies, thereby strengthening the integration of human rights, climate, and governance priorities across European policy frameworks.
Communication Activities
AIDL implements a range of institutional communication activities related to European policies and initiatives on human rights, fundamental freedoms, democracy, justice, good governance, transparency, anti-corruption, climate action, and sustainable development, as well as gender equality, women’s rights, and the fight against discrimination, racism, violence, and extremism. These activities include international conferences and thematic events on EU priorities in the fields of human rights, climate justice, and equality; advocacy and awareness campaigns promoting shared European values; and institutional reports and analyses highlighting the implementation of EU policies from a human rights and societal perspective. AIDL also strengthens communication and cooperation with EU institutions, participates in public consultations and thematic EU platforms, and collaborates with media and civil society organisations to promote broader awareness and engagement on issues related to human rights, climate justice, gender equality, and the empowerment of vulnerable groups.
