Mission & Goals

ACFIM envisions an African society whose leaders emerge from political processes that are inclusive, transparent and accountable. ACFIM's mission is to promote and strengthen political integrity by fostering inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability in financing politics and public institutions for sustainable democracy and development in Africa. We do this through knowledge generation, civic engagement, and formulating policy solutions. ACFIM aims to contribute towards building political integrity by promoting inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability in the funding of campaigns, political parties, and public institutions politics with a view of strengthening the democracy-development nexus in Africa. We aim to become Africa’s leading “megaphone” for the cause of transparent and accountable political and public financing with a view of contributing towards reversing the democratic backsliding and degradation that African countries are experiencing.

EU Legislative Interests

Our participation in the Conference on Countering Fake Election Observation, Disinformation, and Hybrid Threats, organized by the European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE), aligns with our focus on EU initiatives aimed at safeguarding electoral integrity and democratic resilience. In this context, our interest relates primarily to: European Democracy Action Plan (EDAP) – especially aspects addressing disinformation and election integrity; Digital Services Act (DSA) – particularly its provisions on transparency and accountability of platforms in countering disinformation; EU Code of Practice on Disinformation; Strategic Compass for Security and Defence, in the context of hybrid threats; EU Action Plan against Disinformation (2018) and its ongoing implementation. Our engagement aims to support policy measures that strengthen democratic institutions, transparency in elections, and counter disinformation and foreign interference.

Communication Activities

Our organization undertakes several EU-supported communication and advocacy initiatives aligned with the European Union’s policies on democracy support, electoral integrity, and anti-corruption. These activities contribute to policy dialogue, awareness-raising, and civil society engagement across Africa and within EU-Africa partnerships: 1. Annual Electoral Integrity Summits in Africa These high-level forums bring together electoral stakeholders—including civil society, electoral commissions, and EU partners—to exchange best practices and advocate for stronger democratic norms and electoral transparency. Supported by the European Commission, these summits reflect our commitment to advancing the EU's objectives under the European Democracy Action Plan and external democracy promotion strategies. 2. Annual Anti-Corruption Conventions These regional conventions provide a platform for multi-stakeholder engagement on anti-corruption efforts, reinforcing EU global strategies on good governance and the rule of law. They contribute to awareness-raising and the development of policy recommendations relevant to the EU's anti-corruption priorities. 3. Annual Experiential Learning Seminar on Electoral Integrity and Advocacy This seminar builds the capacity of civic actors, including youth and marginalized groups, to engage in democratic processes and electoral reform. It supports the EU’s goals under its Youth Action Plan and external action for strengthening inclusive governance. 4. Monitoring Civic Space of Citizen Election Observers We engage in continuous monitoring and reporting on restrictions to civic space, with a focus on the safety and effectiveness of citizen election observers. This work feeds into EU policy discussions on human rights, fundamental freedoms, and civil society participation. 5. Monitoring Political Financing in Africa This activity involves research, publication of findings, and stakeholder dialogues to enhance transparency and accountability in political finance. It aligns with the EU’s efforts to promote integrity in political systems and address electoral vulnerabilities, including disinformation and foreign interference.
