Mission & Goals
Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. now part of Astra Zeneca, is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and delivering life-transforming therapies for patients with severe and life-threatening diseases that are also ultra-rare. Patients with these devastating diseases often have no effective treatment options, and they and their families suffer with little hope.
EU Legislative Interests
Alexion monitors and follows policy of relevance for the biopharmaceutical sector. It interacts with the EU institutions and engages in issues relating to healthcare, pharmaceuticals, patient safety, research and innovation, competitiveness and internal market, including: - European Commission Pharmaceutical Strategy - Reform of the General Pharmaceutical Legislation (Regulation 726/2004 and Directive 2001/83/EC) - European Biotech Act - Critical Medicines Act - EU Health Technology Assessment Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2021/2282)
Communication Activities
Meetings with EU stakeholders in Brussels and in Member States the primary communication activity. Alexion partnered with trade associations and other stakeholders in several initiatives over the past registrable period: - Contributed to the Orphan Drug Expert Group EU Access Toolbox - https://od-expertgroup.eu/new-report-published-an-eu-access-toolbox-for-omps-that-enables-early-and-equitable-access/; and participated it its launch with the Kangaroo Group - Co-Sponsored and contributed to the Nordic Rare Disease Summit 2025 under the Danish Presidency of the EU
