Mission & Goals
Our goal is to protect the marine environment from industrial fish farming. The specific goals are: (1) The repeal of the K.Y.A. 31722/4-11-2011 on “Approval of the Special Framework for Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development for Aquaculture” – Government Gazette 2505/B/4-11-2011 – of November 2011, which came to legalize the existing anarchic situation with fish farming in Greece today and its serious environmental impacts. (2) A sustainable marine spatial plan with the active participation of the communities affected. (3) International best practices for truly sustainable aquaculture with the focus on small scale and restorative types of aquaculture, not the farming of carnivorous species in highly pollutive open net pens in shallow, coastal waters. (4) Government funded independent oversight of fish farming operations (5) Sufficient guarantees for payment of pollution clean up and abandoned "ghost" farms (6) Transparency on feed, medicines, chemicals, mortalities, escapes.
