Mission & Goals
The Agricultural University of Plovdiv (AUP) was established in 1945 as a national centre for agricultural science and education in Bulgaria. The AUP is the leading institution in proving competences in agricultural business, science and education as the only specialized state-funded university in Bulgaria. For the last five years, it is a National leader in the area of Crop Science, Plant Protection and Animal Science according to the Rating System of the Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria, announced annually. In 2019 the Agricultural University of Plovdiv was granted an institutional accreditation with a grade of 9.61 on the ten-point scale, which places our educational institution among the top three universities in Bulgaria. Communication Activities
The AUP is active in the international research and education scene through Erasmus+ cooperation with foreign universities for exchange of students and teachers, project development, double and joint degrees. Modern challenges in agriculture and economy open new prospects for the AUP researchers and teachers. Nowadays among the major challenges is facing the following sectors: ensuring viable food production in response to growing global demand; ensuring sustainable management of natural resources and climate action and balanced development of the bio-economy of rural areas and their communities. The current contribution by AUP researchers in the preparation of the National strategy of the Bulgarian Government to strengthen the role of the agricultural sector in the bioeconomy, in the BIOEAST initiative of the Central and Eastern European countries for knowledge-based agriculture, aquaculture and forestry. Major activities: Science, Reasearch and Innovations in Bioeconomy, Agriculture, Biodiverisity, Agroecology and etc. The member of LifeWatch ERIC the European Research Infrastructure Consortium providing e-Science research facilities to scientists investigating biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services in order to support society in addressing key planetary challenges. Latest European projects: UNIgreen, Arcadia; Beaming, Ribes, RefreScar, Bioloc, AgroDigiRise, CARINA, CAPBIO4BG - Developing the research & innovation capacity at the Agricultural University of Plovdiv to boost the regional innovation potential in Bio-economy, COOPID - CE-FNR-15-2020, EIT Food Hubs, MainstreamBIO and etc. Participation of Prof. Dr. V.
