Mission & Goals
AdvaMed's mission is to advance medical technology to improve patient lives and promote a healthy global economy by advocating for patient access to safe, effective, and innovative technologies, and promoting ethical standards and competitive policies. The association acts as the common voice for medical technology companies, including those producing medical devices, diagnostics, and digital health technologies.
EU Legislative Interests
AdvaMed is a major advocate for the medical technology industry, and its European policies primarily focus on ensuring continued patient access to medical technologies and fostering innovation within the EU regulatory framework. Our policy concerns include issues related to EU implementation of the Medical Devices Regulation, implementation of the In Vitro Diagnostics Regulation, and currently tariff and retaliatory tariffs proposals that are currently under consideration in the EU, including EU Survey Information gathering notice under Regulation (EU) No 654/2014 on new US tariffs on imports of various products originating in or from the EU, and possible EU measures in response.
Communication Activities
AdvaMed will occasionally meet with the EU Commission on most urgent matters, which include EU/US tariffs and retaliatory measures under consideration as well as MDR/IVDR implementation. Our communication activities are limited and will generally be in the form of policy meetings/discussions with Ministerial/Cabinet level officials in charge of trade and medical device regulations, including DG Trade and DG Sante.
