Mission & Goals

Our vision is a world where citizens are active, leaders are responsible, and institutions are accountable—where resources are used wisely, decisions benefit everyone fairly, and people lead secure lives. We change mindsets and elevate accountability champions through positive, popular campaigns such as Integrity Icon, music competitions, and SDG16 Innovation Challenges, shifting conversations from problems to solutions. We equip reformers inside and outside government with the knowledge and tools they need through trainings like the Accountability Incubator and Integrity Innovation Labs, strengthening a growing network of responsible leaders. We foster collaboration by supporting community feedback loops, OpenGov Hubs, and shared learning spaces that build collective capacity and identity for accountability agents of change.

EU Legislative Interests

European Democracy Action Plan (2020): specifically the components on civic participation, disinformation resilience, and youth engagement, where AL contributes through youth democracy work, civic education approaches, and participation in related dialogues. EU Anti-Corruption Package (2023): including the Directive on combating corruption, where AL shared practitioner insights and participated in civil-society discussions that inform EU positions on global anti-corruption efforts. NDICI: Global Europe governance and civil society programming, limited to participation in EU-funded multi-stakeholder platforms, consultations, or events focused on civic space, accountability, and inclusive governance. EU–Open Government Partnership cooperation initiatives: AL’s contributions to OGP processes, youth participation mechanisms, and open governance dialogues in which the EU participates as a partner. European Consensus on Development: AL engages with development cooperation policies grounded in the EU Consensus on Development through its work on governance, transparency, civic participation, and youth empowerment in partner countries. AL participates in EU-supported civil society consultations, development dialogues, and governance-focused platforms that reflect the Consensus principles of partnership, accountability, inclusive development, and citizen participation. AL’s programming in Africa, Asia, and Latin America aligns with core Consensus commitments to strengthen democratic governance and support active citizenship

Communication Activities

Accountability Lab’s communication activities with EU institutions primarily involve participation in policy dialogues, roundtables, and multi-stakeholder meetings on governance, anti-corruption, and civic engagement. This includes contributing civil society perspectives to consultations on the European Democracy Action Plan and the Anti-Corruption Package; sharing research and programmatic insights with EU officials; providing case studies on citizen-led accountability approaches; and participating in events or conferences co-hosted with EU-funded platforms or partners. We also disseminate publications, blogs, and policy briefs relevant to EU priorities through open channels and public events.
