This communication outlines a plan to create a new 'European degree' qualification to make it easier for universities across different EU countries to collaborate on joint study programs.

The European degree aims to boost Europe's competitiveness by equipping graduates with skills needed for the green and digital transitions, attracting global talent, and fostering a stronger European identity.

It will be a voluntary qualification based on common European criteria for excellence, relevance, and adherence to EU values, and will be automatically recognised across the EU, simplifying processes for universities and students.

The initiative proposes a gradual approach with two entry points: a preparatory European label and the full European degree, supported by funding and policy recommendations to ensure quality assurance and attractive academic careers.
