Human Rights Defenders e.V. (HRD) is a non profit and independent organisation based in Berlin, promoting and protecting human rights in line with the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. The organisation works to monitor human rights violations and strengthen civic participation through education, research, and digital innovation. HRD e.V. cooperates with European and international bodies including the European Union, the Council of Europe, and the United Nations to contribute to the protection of fundamental rights, the rule of law, and democracy. Its main activities include: raising public awareness on fundamental rights and equality supporting victims of rights violations and asylum seekers combating hate speech, racism, and discrimination developing civic tech tools and educational programmes such as the Fundamental Rights Network (FRNETWORK) or HRMONITOR.ORG platforms to empower civil society across Europe

Communication Activities

Communication activities related to these EU policies HRD e.V. organises awareness campaigns, workshops and online conferences about the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and submits policy contributions to European and United Nations human rights mechanisms. The organisation has also submitted a proposal titled “Fundamental Rights Network (FRNETWORK)” under the CERV-2025-CHAR-LITI-CIVIC call, aiming to develop a digital platform for civic monitoring and education on EU fundamental rights. And executing Hrmonitor.org project, Hand in Hand Disability Rights Project.
