EU Legislative Interests

Cementarnica Usje’s integrated waste treatment and circular economy efforts directly support several key EU legislative frameworks and policy priorities, particularly those tied to the European Green Deal, climate neutrality goals, and environmental compliance. The company's focus fits completely with the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans trough promotion of material recovery, recycling, and landfill diversion that directly supports the circular economy pillar of the agenda, while improved waste handling and emissions control contribute to the zero-pollution ambition. Besides the Green Agenda for Western Balkans, and because Usje is part of Titan Group, the incentive also aligns and could strategically target the other EU legislative proposals such as: - EU Waste Framework Directive trough mechanical-biological treatment, material recovery and refuse-derived fuel production from landfills. The directive establishes the principles of the waste hierarchy of prevention, reuse, recycling, recovery, and disposal. Usje supports key objectives by reducing landfilling, promoting recycling, and recovering energy from non-hazardous waste. -Circular Economy Action Plan trough potential use of alternative fuels and secondary raw materials which directly contributes to creating waste valorization and a closed-loop production business model. Usje’s efforts in waste recovery and use of alternative fuels directly support the EU’s shift toward a regenerative economy. This directly helps North Macedonia to prepare for stricter circular economy targets as part of EU accession and Green Agenda alignment. - EU Industrial Emissions Directive trough usage of best avaliable techniques for development and implementation that would enhance the emission control and create further monitoring measures at the facility. This directive governs emissions from industrial plants, including cement kilns. By integrating RDF as a fuel, Usje contributes to emission reductions and environmental performance upgrades. - Renewable Energy Directive trough the usage of low-carbon alternative fuels like RDF in cement production that will directly contribute to meeting EU renewable energy targets, especially in hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors.
